‘Last Week Tonight’ Remixes Russian Propaganda Song to Educate Donald Trump

On Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, John Oliver looked into Donald Trump’s alleged ties to Russia and his friendly view of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Oliver joked, “I’m saying it’s a bit weird that you’ve been objectively nicer to Vladimir Putin than you have to Meryl Streep, who I’m pretty sure is not an infamous autocrat. Although, you know what? If she tried it, she’d nail it. The woman’s a tour de force.”

Oliver played a popular Russian pop song that features a female musical group singing about how they would love a strong man like Putin.

So Oliver created his own parody version of the song in the hopes that Donald Trump would watch it. It included lyrics like, “A man like Putin may seem like he’s strong, but if you think that, know that you’re wrong,” and, “A man like Putin only wants power. He’ll fake a tape of your golden shower. That’s not something we want to see — your orangey face all covered in pee.”

Last Week Tonight airs Sundays at 11 p.m. on HBO.
