During the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content Casey Bloys unveiled the first look at “The Last of Us” Season 2. As previously announced, new cast members include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Catherine O’Hara also guest stars.

Returning actors in addition to Pascal and Ramsey are Gabriel Luna as Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria.

“The Last of Us” is written and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television and is executive produced by Carolyn Strauss, Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, and Evan Wells. Production companies are PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint, and Naughty Dog.

The series is based on the critically acclaimed video game of the same name, which was developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation consoles. The story itself takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

“The Last of Us” had a record-breaking first season, becoming the most-watched debut season of a series ever for HBO.

Ramsey, who was already an HBO star due to their turn in “Game of Thrones,” told LAD Bible in 2023 that “The Last of Us” Season 2 will definitely be worth the wait, assuring that fans will not be disappointed at how the story progresses.

“I know that that’s like the big fear, that all of us working on the show, and probably the rest of the world have, is that Season 2 isn’t going to be as good as Season 1,” Ramsey said. “But I have a lot of faith in the creators. And I think they’re spectacular. So I think I think we’re going to do great. I think we will top it.”

“The Last of Us” Season 2 will debut in 2025 on HBO and will be available to stream on Max. Check out the first look images above and below.
