After 30 years together, the majority spent in the spotlight of rock and metal, Papa Roach doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon.

Since their smash hit "Last Resort" burst onto airwaves in 2000, the four-man band that originated in Vacaville, California, has maintained its place in the spotlight. Much of that can be attributed to the group's ability, and willingness, to adapt to an ever-changing musical landscape.

"We just care about the whole thing," guitarist Jerry Horton told the Avalanche-Journal in an interview to promote a planned show Oct. 10 in the Hub City." We take things in chunks and focus on certain things at certain times, but we're always trying to make things better, learn from our mistakes, learn from things that didn't work and go from there."

Finding things that work hasn't been much of an issue for the group. Led by the energetic frontman in lead singer Jacoby Shaddix, Papa Roach continues to turn out hit singles and albums. With a mainstream catalog that spans more than two decades, Papa Roach will be bringing their latest tour to Lubbock at 8 p.m. Oct. 10 where they'll be joined by Spiritbox at the Lonestar Amphitheater. More information about tickets is available through Ticketmaster.

Papa Roach is currently on three tours simultaneously. They and Spiritbox are supporting Shinedown on the Revolutions Live Tour; have their own Ego Trip World Tour; and splitting off with Spiritbox for a group of shows at smaller venues themselves.

It could be a lot to coordinate with all the moving parts, but Horton said the logistics are easy enough. They've been there, done that. The main thing that changes — and what those attending the show in Lubbock can expect — is the number of songs Papa Roach will play.

While supporting Shinedown, Horton said, Papa Roach is playing a 12- or 13-song set each night. That will expand to about 17 or 18 songs for their headlining shows they'll have with Spiritbox.

Horton said the mainstays such as "Last Resort" are guarantee plays on either set. Everything else in between varies.

"We're just adding a few songs," Horton said, "and we have some audibles, some things that we'll switch in and out, probably put in a few that we want to play and that we know are P-Roach fan favorites that maybe aren't necessarily radio hits or that kind of stuff."

Being on tour with another headline-quality band like Shinedown can heighten the intensity for bands like Papa Roach, each trying to outdo each other on a nightly basis. Headlining shows, Horton said, are a bit more relaxing. They're still going to bring it, but they can add their own flare to the festivities.

"Jacoby, he'll get to have fun with the crowd," Horton said. "If it's not our tour, we always kind of have that attitude of going out there and just like beating people over the head, making the biggest impression that we can.

"When it's our crowd, it's a little bit easier to take a little a little bit longer in between songs, Jacoby can talk a little bit, we can do a couple little jams here and there. We've done that set already this year and we just kind of evolved that a little bit, added to it, and we're good to go."
