Las Vegas oddsmakers are high on Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets

The recently agreed upon blockbuster deal that will send star Chris Paul from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, Sam Dekker, Montrezl Harrell and a 2018 first-round pick has sent seismic waves throughout the NBA landscape as well as Las Vegas sports books.

Paul is a nine-time All-Star, All-NBA player and All-Defensive team member. In his 12-year standout career, Paul has averaged 18.7 points, 9.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

Before the deal, the Rockets had 30/1 championship odds for the 2017-18 season. With the addition of their new dynamo point guard to pair with James Harden, the Rockets saw their odds of lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy cut in half to 15/1.

Although the Clippers received some quality young pieces in the haul for Paul, according to Las Vegas, the team’s likelihood of winning an NBA title this year have drastically diminished – Doc Rivers and company went from possessing 40/1 championship odds to 100/1 odds.

The reigning NBA Champion Golden State Warriors are still the odds on favorites to repeat with 5/11 odds, and LeBron JamesCleveland Cavaliers follow with 3/1 odds.

Now on equal footing in terms of championship odds as the Boston Celtics, always aggressive Rockets general manger Daryl Morey will likely look to add a third star to pair with his new look backcourt as the team tries to compete with the Warriors for a Western Conference title.
