SOUTH BEND — The History Museum presents the lecture “Monsters & Myths” at 2 p.m. Jan. 28 at 897 Thomas St.

Arryngton Ladd, the exhibits coordinator at The History Museum, will explore the wonderful world of monsters and myths. The program, offered in conjunction with the exhibit “Indiana Lore,” will describe folklore, common myths and how legends become legendary.

Attendees will be able to tour “Indiana Lore” prior to and after the lecture. The exhibit, presented in conjunction with the Indiana Historical Society, showcases larger-than-life legends and folklore of the Hoosier state.

Through historic photos and original art by the Braintwins, Indiana Lore traces the roots of Indiana’s tall tales, from the green-eyed ghost of a bulldog guarding a grave at Terre Haute’s Highland Lawn Cemetery to the Grey Lady who lurks in the children’s book section of Evansville’s Willard Library.

Featured are stories from the St. Joseph River Valley, including that of Hazel McNalley, accused of murdering her children, who she claimed had been only dolls.

These mysterious and mesmerizing campfire stories spark imaginations and illuminate another side of Hoosier history.

Admission is $5; $3 for members.
