LANY joins Kyle Meredith to chat about their writing process, learning from their influences, and their new album, A Beautiful Blur.

Paul Klein and Jake Goss discuss writing opening cut “XXL” just out of lockdown, leaning into the sound of their musical heroes like U2 and Coldplay, and Klein’s ability to find universality in his lyrics while remaining intensely personal. The duo also talk about why they changed their album title at the last minute, what it’s been like for Goss to be on an album cycle for the first time as a dad, and what their hopes are for each new project.

Elsewhere, they share the story of the time Pearl Jam fans nearly booed them off stage. “We played a festival in Milan and Peal Jam was headlining that night. I couldn’t believe we got to play the same stage as Pearl Jam,” Goss explains. “We played and people just turned their backs to us and flipped us off — and it’s one of my favorite memories ever.”
