Though it seems just like yesterday, it was over five years ago when Donald Glover first appeared as Lando Calrissian. Apologies in advance to the young Mr. Han Solo, but it was clear—even from the box-office bomb of Solo: A Star Wars Storythat Glover had a standout performance. "We think that the next spinoff will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told Premiere at the time. “Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca but Lando will be next."

But among a myriad of other projects in development, the Lando spinoff was put on the backburner. After half-decade of wondering, we finally have an update. According to Glover's brother, Stephen, the film is still production—but has been halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Appearing on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, Stephen Glover revealed that the latest plans were to make a film and not a Disney+ series. Justin Simien (Haunted Mansion) was initially set to develop the streaming series, but Glover and his brother took over at some point with the intention of turning the project into a feature film.

"I’m not interested in doing anything that is going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck," Glover told GQ back in April. "I would much rather spend time with people I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I'd like to hang out with. We're talking about it. That's as much as I can say."

If Lucasfilm is smart, I'd recommend prioritizing this one over anything else they have currently going on. I can wait for The Mandalorian movie. They have to lock down Donald Glover this Lando film right now.
