Another taste of Jacksonville is coming to Jacksonville International Airport.

Angie’s Subs, a Jacksonville Beach dining institution for more than 40 years, will bring its signature subs and sweet tea to a new restaurant at the airport early next year, airport restaurateur HMSHost announced Tuesday.

The 10-seat, 800-square-foot quick-service restaurant will take over a spot in Concourse A near Shula’s Bar & Grill and across from Southern Grounds, another local restaurant concept.

At Angie’s Subs, travelers and airport employees can choose from some of the restaurant’s most popular subs, including fan favorites like The Peruvian (ham, Genoa salami, bacon, Italian sausage, provolone, and Peruvian sauce), Dr. Bang’s Scrippy (capicola, pepperoni, provolone, homemade chicken salad, lettuce, tomato, and pickle) and the Jack Del Rio (turkey, roast beef, bacon, mushrooms, honey BBQ Fritos, provolone, and Del Rio sauce). Other menu items will include salads, sides (including potato salad and deviled eggs) and desserts like Angie’s Banana Puddin’.

"My team and I are beyond excited and very honored to bring our brand to JAX,” said Ed Malin, owner of Angie’s Subs. “What could be better than sitting in the window seat eating a hot, juicy Angie's Sub and sipping a giant sweet tea while enjoying a 35,000-foot view?"

For Jacksonville International Airport, the addition of Angie’s Subs represents more local flavor to a growing lineup of airport concessions with familiar names.

“As a traveler’s first and last impression of the region, an airport should showcase the best of the local community,” said Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) CEO Mark VanLoh. “We believe a beloved Jax Beach staple like Angie’s Subs is a perfect addition to our concessions offerings for passengers.”

Other local restaurants with restaurants at the airport include:

  • Firehouse Subs, the international sub chain founded in Jacksonville which this year relocated to a post-security food court area between Sbarro’s and Auntie Anne’s

  • Southern Grounds, which has cafes in Neptune Beach, San Marco and Avondale, opened in Concourse A in February 2022. (A second, larger restaurant opened a week ago just outside the TSA screening area, allowing access to all airport visitors.)

  • Burrito Gallery, which has four area restaurants plus a concession at EverBank Field, plans to bring its Jax Mex menu of burritos, quesadillas, tacos and more to the airport’s restaurant lineup.

The Concourse A spot that Angie’s Subs will occupy was previously set to host the future Burrito Gallery. But because that space was not able to accommodate some of the necessary kitchen equipment for the menu items, Burrito Gallery instead will be part of the airport’s great food hall area when Concourse B is completed, Greg Willis, marketing and public relations manager for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority, told the Times-Union in an email on Tuesday.

The announcement of Angie's Subs' addition to the airport follows the recent soft opening of Southern Grounds' second restaurant. Located pre-security, the larger restaurant offers more seating and more food options and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner plus a full-service bar. A grand opening is planned for Wednesday, Aug. 16. And last November, the airport welcomed fast-casual craft burger chain BurgerFi to Concourse A, just past the TSA screening area.

HMSHost, which operates the airport’s restaurant concessions, will partner with Florida-based Lee Wesley Group, Inc., an Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE), on the new Angie’s Subs location.
