Lance Reddick Dies: ‘John Wick’, ‘The Wire’, ‘Fringe’ & ‘Bosch’ Actor Was 60

Lance Reddick, a prolific actor who played Charon in all four John Wick films and was a series regular on The Wire, Fringe and Bosch among dozens of other roles spanning a quarter-century, died today. He was 60.
His rep at Portrait PR confirmed the news, saying he died of natural causes but not providing other details.

The actor had been doing interviews for the upcoming John Wick: Chapter Four starring Keanu Reeves just this week. He also was set to appear in the franchise-spinoff pic Ballerina.
Reddick began his screen career in the mid-1990s, guesting on such series as The Nanny and New York Undercover. Later in the decade, he appeared on the big screen in pics including Great Expectations and The Siege before recurring on HBO’s Emmy-winning 2000 miniseries The Corner, which was based on David Simon’s book.
That same year, he join the cast of another gritty HBO drama, Oz, appearing in a dozen episodes. Around that time, Reddick also did an arc on Law & Order: SVU.
But perhaps his most famous role would come next.
Reddick was cast as Cedric Daniels in The Wire, another HBO drama that Simon penned and also created.
While not a breakout hit at the time, the series has become among the most acclaimed and influential of the 21st century. Appearing in all 60 episodes, Reddick’s character is a rising force in Baltimore Police Department and is promoted from lieutenant to major to commissioner during its five-season run.

During his Wire run, Reddick also did arcs on crime dramas Law & Order and CSI: Miami and guested on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. He also recurred on Lost and appeared in episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Numbers before landing another role for which he’d be well known.
Reddick was cast in the first season of Fox’s Fringe as Phillip Broyles, a Homeland Security special agent who ran the Fringe division that investigated unexplained phenomena and terrorism. He appeared in most of the 100 episodes of the series created by J.J. Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, which aired from 2008-13.
Lots more guest TV spots followed for Reddick after Fringe wrapped, including The Blacklist, Wilfred and an arc on Intelligence. Then John Wick came calling.
Reddick co-starred in the 2014 film that launched the action franchise as Charon, the concierge at New York’s Continental Hotel who often works with Keanu’s titular character. He appeared in all of the Wick films, including Chapter Four, which opens wide on March 24. He also voiced the Charon character in the 2019 video game John Wick Hex.
In fact, Reddick also was prolific as a voice actor. In animated series, his credits include Rick and Morty, Castlevania, Paradise PD, Farzar, The Legend of Vox Machina and Duck Tales. In video games, he was Martin Hatch in Quantum Break, Commander Zavala in the Destiny series and also featured in Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, among other credits.
After the first Wick, Reddick returned to guesting on TV, doing one or more episodes of such series as American Horror Story and Carrier before getting yet another series-regular role in Bosch, Prime Video’s popular L.A.-set crime drama starring Titus Welliver as relentless homicide detective Harry Bosch. Reddick played Police Chief Irvin Irving in all of the series’ 68 episodes from 2014-21.
The actor would get yet another series-regular role during Bosch’s run, this time in Comedy Central’s Corporate. He played the uber-capitalist Christian DeVille, CEO of the megacorporation Hampton DeVille, who loves to turn others people’s hardship into easy cash. He appeared in 18 of the show’s 24 episodes from 2018-20.
Just last year, Reddick was among the principal cast of Resident Evil, the Netflix series based loosely on the popular video game franchise. He multiple members of the same Wesker family in the live-action show, which was canceled after its eight-episode freshman season.
On the big screen, Reddick’s recent work includes Godzilla vs. Kong, One Night in Miami, Sylvie’s Love, Faith Based and Angel Has Fallen.
He was reprising his Charon role for Ballerina, the John Wick spinoff film starring Ana de Armas and also had several roles in upcoming films and TV series including 20th Century Studios’ White Men Can’t Jump remake, The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial and the John Ridley-helmed Shirley, produced by and co-starring One Night in Miami helmer Regina King.
Reddick is survived by his his wife, Stephanie, and their children Yvonne and Christopher.
