Andrea and Matteo Bocelli performed a powerful tribute at the Sunday awards ceremony that left out a few notable stars.

The Academy Awards’ In Memoriam segment decided not to shine a spotlight on a few late Hollywood greats.

Lance Reddick, Angus Cloud, Suzanne Somers and Ron Cephas Jones were just a few of the many recently lost stars who were noticeably omitted from the 2024 Oscars' tribute on Sunday — though not entirely forgotten. Every year, the Academy leaves a few beloved names out of the montage, opting to share a much longer list on the Oscars.org website. This time around, the telecast included the list on screen in a brief slide to close the montage.

The decision was not well-received by some viewers, who criticized the list on social media for being disrespectful as a replacement for singular tribute slides.

The absence of a tribute for Reddick in particular has sparked considerable anger online, given his fame and notable role in the John Wick franchise. Reddick died in March 2023 from heart disease, although the cause of death was later disputed by a lawyer representing the actor's family.

In a statement shared with EW, the late actor's wife, Stephanie Reddick, said, "While it would have been lovely to see an image of Lance, we appreciate that he was included in the In Memoriam. More than anything I/we are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support for Lance not only this past year but throughout his career. That has been such a gift."

Reps for The Academy Awards declined to comment.

Others excluded from the main segment but mentioned in the final slide include Treat Williams, Ray Stephenson, Norman Lear, Sinead O’Connor, and Cormac McCarthy. Angus Cloud, primarily known for his role in Euphoria, was omitted entirely.

The overall segment was led by Andrea Bocelli and his son, Matteo, as they sang “Time to Say Goodbye.” Dancers also took to the stage for the performance, another element of the In Memoriam that is receiving backlash, with viewers complaining that focus on the performance distracted from the tribute itself.

Carl Weathers, Chita Rivera, Michael Gambon, Paul Reubens, and Piper Laurie were among the stars honored in the main section. Despite being known primarily for their TV work, Friends alum Matthew Perry and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher were also included.
