Lamorne Morris first met “Fargo” costar Jon Hamm while high on mushrooms and thought he was the Devil

"I'm like, 'I literally just met Satan and he just tried to drown me with water.'"

Lamorne Morris is issuing a word of warning: Don’t meet your heroes — at least not while high on shrooms.

The actor has revealed that he first met Jon Hamm at a party at Dave Chappelle's house after taking mushrooms and was so out of it that he thought his Fargo costar was actually the Devil.

While visiting Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday, Morris began the tale of his date with the Devil by telling host Jimmy Kimmel that he's "a drug-free person" in general, before adding, "This one particular occasion, I may have ingested some shrooms that I found 'cause I thought it was like a seasoning."

When he arrived at Chappelle’s house, however, Morris knew instantly that he had made a terrible mistake.

"I walk in and I'm like, 'Damnit, I shouldn't have ingested those shrooms accidentally, because in this room are some of my favorite people — my idols,'" he explained. "I'm sitting next to Jon Hamm and I'm clearly the high one in the room. I'm clearly just, like, out of my mind because I'd never done it before, and I'm sweating and I'm being weird. I'm plum-dumb at this point."

Hamm then attempted to help Morris through his trip. "Jon goes, 'Maybe you should get some water,' and behind him there were these red neon lights."

"All I heard was, 'Maybe you should get some water,'" Morris repeated in a lower, demonic tone. "And I was like, 'Jon Hamm is the Devil!'"

The deviled Hamm promptly sent Morris into a frenzy. "I get up and I'm tripping out because I'm like, 'I literally just met Satan and he just tried to drown me with water,'" he said. "This is what I really thought, and I wander off into the forest and just hang out by a tree for a couple hours."

To which Kimmel responded, "Jon Hamm sent you on some kind of a vision quest?"

"Yes, he did," Morris said. "And I’m thankful for that because I got familiar with trees."

Morris and Hamm later reunited — we assume not while on mushrooms — on the snow-filled set of Fargo season 5, on which Morris plays North Dakota Dep. Witt Farr and Hamm stars as North Dakota Sheriff Roy Tillman. While filming, Morris said, he had to quickly adapt to the chilly Calgary weather.

"When we were shooting, I was like, 'Okay, there's no way they're going to allow us to shoot in this kind of weather,' because my body has needs," he explained. "I would show up to set with an electric vest under my cop uniform, I've got five pairs of socks, and then I get to set thinking, 'Okay, I’m ready to brave the cold,' and then here comes Juno Temple running out wearing a cardigan and she's barefoot… And I was like, 'I’ve gotta stop being a little bitch.'"
