Lady Gaga has always used style and beauty as a performance, but in recent years, her looks have undoubtedly settled down from raw meat dresses or showing up in an egg to the red carpet. Still, Gaga has cemented herself as a style icon, one who will try anything once and isn't afraid to surprise us. And, on May 23, surprise us she did with a gothic beauty transformation.

Gaga attended the Los Angeles premiere for her new film which follows her recent tour, the Chromatic Ball, wearing an outfit that felt like peak 2010s Gaga. "On the red carpet I told them it was a car part," she wrote of the look on Instagram. "They said what kind and I said I don’t know, I’m not a mechanic."

Unexpected, a little weird, and very chic sums up her look which is probably the most Gaga-y outfit from Gaga we've seen in years. We'll admit, the broken car part was hard to ignore, but her cool, goth black bangs caught our attention the most. Frederic Aspiras was the hairstylist credited for her look which featured a deep black color and a short micro-bang with a new length that rested on her chest and lots of choppy layers. The new hair is a leap from the singer's signature old Hollywood blonde, so we can't help but be intrigued. Is this hinting at a new era for the The Fame singer? Will the dark shade be her new signature?

Her makeup followed a similar ghost-meets-goth theme, courtesy of makeup artist Sarah Tanno. She wore a super light, almost white foundation shade with a barely-there contour that sculpted her cheeks. Bleached eyebrows added to the edgy feel and a swipe of rose gold eyeshadow and smoky red shade on her lash line made her green eyes pop. She had a just-bitten lip look, with the red on her lips and eyes contrasting with the black-and-white palette.

In the photos, the 38-year-old looks like a modern art sculpture you'd find in a quirky car dealership. The outfit is from the brand Selva's BFAM series, which stands for "Brutalist Functional Art Movement." She wore a white car door as a necklace with a white dress underneath adorned with grommets paired with tall white boots.

The final touch? Her simple black manicure. If Gaga's going to do something, she's going to make sure to check every box. The simple black nails were proof of the attention to detail and thoughtful energy she puts into her outfits.

We've seen celebrities method dress for their premieres, but we've never seen something quite like this. If Gaga is method dressing, is her next album car-themed? Regardless, leave it to Lady Gaga to liven up your Friday with the quintessential Gaga 'fit. Siri, play "Telephone!"
