Lady Gaga, Chris Evans and More Celebs React to Alabama Abortion Ban
Hollywood is taking a stand.
Celebs like Lady Gaga, Chris Evans, Alyssa Milano, Andy Cohen, Janelle Monae, Ava DuVernay and more celebs are speaking out in response to Alabama's recent ban on abortion.
On Tuesday, Alabama's Senate passed the most restrictive abortion bill in the country. If not blocked, the law mandates that doctors who perform abortions at any stage of pregnancy will face a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison -- and a maximum of 99 years, or life, in prison. An attempted motion to add an amendment allowing abortion in the case of rape or incest failed. According to CNN, cases where the mother's life is at risk, or if the unborn child has a lethal anomaly, are the only exceptions to the law.
"It is an outrage to ban abortion in Alabama period, and all the more heinous that it excludes those [who] have been raped or experiencing incest non-consensual or not," Gaga wrote in a passionate message on Twitter on Wednesday. "So there's a higher penalty for doctors who perform these operations than for most rapists? This is a travesty and I pray for all these women and young girls who will suffer at the hands of this system."

27 white males just decided what Alabama women can and can’t do with their own bodies and lives. *(Males cause 100% of unwanted pregnancies) https://t.co/QfXpnwit0w

I’ve been reading about the Alabama abortion ban all morning and trying to articulate how terrifying + insane this all is but all I’m left with is this boiling feeling of helplessness + anger + fear in my chest.
how do you celebrate your mother and then seek to control her?— Maggie Rogers (@maggierogers) May 15, 2019
Men of the Alabama senate....what about your daughters? How do y’all lay your head down peacefully? You know this isn’t right.

Just so I’m understanding this correctly... in Alabama, a man who RAPES & gets a women pregnant will serve LESS time then the person that removes the embryo that was forcefully put in the victim...

Don’t move forward after reading this like everything is normal. Don’t shake your head at Alabama and then keep going about your day. Realize that this is a warning. It’s Alabama and abortion today. It’s you and your rights tomorrow. Your silence will not save you. So speak up. https://t.co/kIz78uAU1T

Yes, the news out of Alabama tonight is HORRIFYING. Rapists are facing less jail time than a doctor who performs an abortion on a rape victim. See below for where you can donate to help fight and hopefully reverse this sheer evil. https://t.co/wxjC2VVUcv

Alabama's abortion bill comes just weeks after Georgia's controversial "heartbeat bill," which says that abortion as early as six weeks into pregnancy can be criminalized. Busy Philipps, among other stars, has been incredibly outspoken about the law.
