Lacrosse coach at Atlantic Coast High faces fraud, theft charges after arrest on campus

A girls lacrosse coach at Atlantic Coast High is facing several criminal charges after she was arrested at the school Monday morning, according to Times-Union news partner First Coast News.

Caitlin Powderly, 35, is charged with organized fraud, check forgery, grand theft and other charges, according to jail records.

She was arrested at the school Monday morning by Jacksonville Beach Police.

Police reports said Powderly deposited stolen checks from a Jacksonville Beach business in March totaling over $4,000.Police tracked the checks being deposited into an account owned by Powderly and that her signature matched those on the checks, the report said.

The case is not related to her employment at the school, police said.

Powderly joined Atlantic Coast this school year. She has previously been an assistant coach at several colleges, including Villanova University, Marquette University and Brown University.

She was fired from an assistant coaching position at Franklin & Marshall College in Pennsylvania amid a 2012 hazing investigation, according to The New York Times.
