Labor Day weekend will be rocking all around at beaches - here's the entertainment slate

The Labor Day holiday weekend is almost upon us. While throngs of visitors will pack area beaches by day, many will also be looking for evening entertainment — and local concert venues are ready.

In Dewey Beach, the Bottle & Cork will welcome country star Warren Zieders for a sold-out concert Thursday, Aug. 31. All 1,200 tickets were snatched up last spring before the famed nightclub had even opened for the season. The Cork has now placed tickets on sale for its Sunday, Dec. 31 New Year’s Eve EDM Party. The electronic dance music grooves will be courtesy of deejay sets by Knappy and also Alwz Snny ($35).

In Selbyville, the outdoor Freeman Arts Pavilion will feature the return of the Yacht Rock Revue at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 ($34). The group’s 2023 Reverse Sunset Tour again finds it covering soft-rock AM and FM radio staples from the 1970s and ’80s.

Admission will be free Saturday, Sept. 2, when Freeman hosts its annual Arts & Jazz Festival. Joe Baione will kick things off at 4 p.m., followed by Jazzy Blu at 5:15 p.m. and wrapping up with Mike Casey at 6:45 p.m.

Elsewhere in coastal Sussex County, local music promoter Marissa Levy Leher has a success on her hands with the new location of The Listening Booth. The acoustic concert venue is now in a space in the Tanger Outlets Seaside shopping center on southbound Route 1 at Midway. The spot at 35000 Midway Outlet Drive (Suite 218) has hosted sold-out performances by both Jill Sobule and Dar Williams in recent weeks.

Next up at The Listening Booth is a concert by classically-trained acoustic guitarist (and electronic looper) Hiroya Tsukamoto, who hails from Japan. He will appear Friday, Sept. 1 following a 7 p.m. opening set by local favorite Tyler Greene ($25). As mentioned in this column recently, Greene has released a new EP titled “Simple” which features his original indie-rock tunes. Tsukamoto will return to The Listening Booth by himself at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 for a 90-minute behind-the-scenes workshop in which he explains some of his techniques ($35).

Another Lewes-area business hosting international music talent this week is the Nassau Valley Vineyards, located off westbound Route 9 (and southbound Route 1). Dublin, Ireland-based recording act I Draw Slow will perform at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31 ($30). The rootsy folk act is led by siblings Louise and Dave Holden.

In Berlin, the Ocean Downs Casino has placed tickets on sale ($40) for an upcoming event that will combine food and music. The Turf by the Surf Steak Cookoff will take place from noon to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23. Music will take place throughout the day, including a headlining set by Jack Russell’s Great White — which is sure to play head-banging hits such as “Rock Me,” “Save Your Love” and “Once Bitten, Twice Shy.”
