Labor Day Pow Wow, Lodi Grape Festival and The Record's Family Day at the Park return this September

Summer will be coming to an end soon but events across San Joaquin County are far from ending. This month will bring something for everyone from concerts at the Bob Hope Theatre to a Food Truck Frenzy and the Lodi Comic Con Fall.

Here are some events you don't want to miss this September.

Annual Labor Day Stockton Community Pow Wow

The Annual Labor Day Stockton Community Pow Wow is back this year for its 42nd year at The University of the Pacific in Stockton. The celebration will honor indigenous people with songs, dances, food, and more.

“Since 1981, Native Americans representing tribes from throughout California and other western states have converged on the University of the Pacific on Labor Day Weekend for the Stockton Labor Day Pow Wow,” Visit Stockton’s website stated.

An event by The University of the Pacific El Centro and the Stockton Pow Wow Committee. A free family-friendly event open to the public.

2nd annual Taco the Town 5k & 10k

Tacos and beer, what’s better than that after a run? (Certainly not before).

Head over to North Stockton to The Factory Institute of Fitness and join the 2nd annual Taco the Town 5k & 10k run on Saturday.

Like the name states, there will be tacos and beer at the finish line. Don’t miss out on live music, performances, a pinata, and over 20 small local businesses.

Tacos will be from Tacos La Palmita, Maria's Taqueria, Jump'n Tastebuds, and a vegan option with Comida De Jen. Beer will be from Five Window Beer Co.

The event is a fundraiser for Family Promise of San Joaquin. The race will be timed and there will be “age-based awards.”

The event is free for children 13 years old and under. Tickets are $45+ for others.

Ana Bárbara “Bandidos Tour” at the Bob Hope Theatre

Mexican singer Ana Bárbara will be performing on Saturday at the Bob Hope Theatre as part of her “Bandidos Tour.”

Bárbara starts her 21-date tour in Monterey on Thursday, performing Friday in Fresno and on Saturday stopping in Stockton.

She will be performing some of her “greatest hits” like "Bandido", "Lo Busque", and "La Trampa.” With special guest Majo Aguilar.

Stockton Black Family Day

The annual Stockton Black Family Day is back this Labor Day weekend with free family fun, entertainment and food.

Stockton Black Family Day, founded in 1969, is dedicated to promoting the Community Principles of Faith, Education, Health, Respect, and Unity.

From dances to different types of foods and health booths, there will be many things to do like register to vote, learn some CPR, or learn some updates on COVID-19.

Benjamin Slater Pride Spotlight

The San Joaquin Pride Center is highlighting local queer artists every month and honoring them with an opening gallery reception.

The artist of the month for September is Benjamin Slater. Head over to the San Joaquin Pride Center on Tuesday for some Benjamin Slater art.

American singer-songwriter Kip Moore will be at the Bob Hope Theatre in Stockton on Thursday, Sept. 7. He will be performing his “Damn Love World Tour.”

Moore will be performing in Stockton on Thursday, at Anaheim on Friday, and in San Diego on Saturday.

The Cadillac Three will be the special guest. Tickets start at $37.50+.

Annual Saint Basil’s Greek Festival

From Greek food to music and dancing the annual Saint Basil’s Greek Festival is returning on Sept. 8 through Sept. 10.

Head over to the Saint Basil Greek Orthodox Christian Church for the celebration. Adults are $5 and children 11 years old and under are free with a paying adult.

Center of Attention: Poems on Stockton & San Joaquin

Tuleburg Press is presenting an anthology of Stockton-San Joaquin-based poetry. A “captivating collection” that highlights the voices of 50 talented poets.

With over 80 poems, "including a selection in Spanish with English translations, this anthology is a testament to the rich diversity of expression within our community."

This will take place at the Mexican Heritage Center and Gallery on Friday, Sept. 8, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at 111 S. Sutter Street in downtown Stockton.

Food Truck Frenzy

Food trucks, wine, and local stories.

On Saturday, Sept. 9 you can find this and much more at E2 Family Winery at 9301 W Hwy 12 in Lodi.

An event presented by Love Lodi to fundraise for the Fall 2023 initiatives at Lawrence Elementary School and Lodi Middle School. General admission is $20, fees not included.

Lodi Grape Festival and Harvest Fair

The Lodi Grape Festival and Harvest Fair are back with four days filled with entertainment, food, exhibits, and more.

With more than 80 years of the festival. This year will once again bring carnival rides, a petting zoo, wine tasting, and carnival foods.

Tickets range from $8 for kids 6-12 years old, $12 for adults, and free entry for kids ages 5 and under.

Every day has a different theme. From Thursday’s Family Value Day everyone 16 years old and under enters free all day. On Friday, it’s Free til’ 5 Day, from noon to 5 p.m. everyone gets in for free.

Saturday and Sunday are Two for $2 til’ 2 p.m. If you present two cans of food you get admission for only $2 from noon to 2 p.m.

The Record’s 26th Annual Family Day at the Park

On Saturday, Sept. 16, The Record’s Annual Family Day at the Park is back for its 26th year.

The mascot parade will kick off the festivities at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday.

Enjoy a free family event at Weber Point in Downtown Stockton. This signature event brings fun and educational activities for the entire community to one place.

With about 100 businesses and local organizations, arts and crafts, games, and of course storytelling. From entertainment with mascots, Sparkls the Clown, and Ravioli the Magician to the Cesar Chavez Music Department at The Main Stage.

Astronomy in the Park

Want to see the moon, Saturn, and M13 or Star Cluster in Hercules up close through the lens of a telescope? Then head over to Oak Grove Regional Park on Saturday, Sep. 23.

The Stockton Astronomical Society members will once again bring out their telescopes this September for Astronomy in the Park. Telescope viewings take place once a month and feature a different deep sky object every time. This also happens on the Saturday closest to the first quarter moon.

Sunset is at 7 p.m. Saturday, September 23: The Moon, Saturn, M13, or Star Cluster in Hercules can be seen then. After 10 p.m. Jupiter, and at 9 p.m. the Deep Sky Object M57 or Ring Nebula can be seen.

The event is free but the county charges $6 for parking.

Latin Soul Fest

The Latin Soul Fest at Oak Grove Regional Park will have taco trucks, live music, and dancing. The music will start at 1 p.m.

Grab your lawn chairs and your cash for the food trucks and parking. Tickets are now on sale for $20. Parking is $6 cash only.

Hispanic Heritage Celebration at Prevail

Prevail which was formerly known as the Women's Center-Youth and Family Services is hosting a Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Sunday, Sept. 24.

Here you will find food, performances, art, and many resources. This is a free event for the community.

Pixie Woods Inaugural Beer Stroll

From the creators of the Pixie Woods Wine and Beer Tasting Event, the board is introducing its newest event the Pixie Woods Beer Stroll.
