Labor Day in Orlando: Events, things to do

Labor Day is Sept. 4, providing many Central Floridians an extra day off to spend with friends and family. The federal holiday honors the American labor movement and the contributions of workers to the United States. In celebrating that, here are some suggestions for ways to spend the three-day weekend around Orlando and Central Florida.

Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining is back through Oct. 1 with three-course, prix-fixe meals for $40 or $60 per person at many Central Florida eateries. Leu Gardens brings a movie night for guests to kick off Labor Day weekend with “Top Gun: Maverick.” Snacks and alcohol are allowed, but pets and tents are not. Leu Gardens members receive free admission to all movie nights on a first-come, first-served basis. Gates open at 6 p.m. and the movie starts at 8 p.m. Sept. 1 at 1920 N. Forest Ave. in Orlando. Meat cute at Visit Orlando’s Magical Dining steakhouse options

Orlando Urban Film Festival highlights the work of movie creators and musical artists during Labor Day weekend. Music, food and networking events are included in the festivities, which will take place in and near CMX Cinema Plaza in downtown Orlando. The festival is Aug. 31- Sept. 2. Raglan Road’s Great Irish Hooley returns with lots of Irish music and cuisine at the Disney Springs restaurant. Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios begins this weekend for the 32nd year of scares, complete with 10 haunted houses, five scare zones and live shows. A Labor Day 5K presented by Southern Timing will celebrate the American worker with a run around Lake Baldwin.
