La Salle College freshman Brighton Fontaine verbally commits to Alabama for baseball

Brighton Fontaine announced on social media that he’s verbally committing to play baseball at the University of Alabama.

Fontaine, a 6-foot-2, 185-pounder from North Wales, is a right-handed pitcher and middle infielder heading into his freshman season at La Salle College High School.

Fontaine said Alabama first started recruiting him after watching him pitch at the Freshman World Championship in West Palm Beach, Florida, from October 6-10. After one of the Alabama coaches reached out to his Bucks County Generals coach JR Barder to invite him to a camp in Alabama and he went, "my family and I felt Alabama was the best decision," according to Fontaine.

"I really enjoyed the campus and I was able to speak with the entire coaching staff and I really liked them," said Fontaine, who had been recruited by several Big 10, ACC and SEC schools and visited a number of them.

Alabama leads the SEC with more than 2,500 career victories and has had over 60 players make it to the major leagues, which is also the most in the conference.

Fontaine is ranked as the No. 3 prospect in the class of 2026 by Prep Baseball Report (PBR) Pennsylvania.

He credits parents Teresa and Scott for having him play baseball, football, basketball and participate in MMA at a young age. "Playing all of these sports has contributed to my athleticism on the mound," Fontaine said.

The 15-year-old Fontaine, whose fastball was clocked as high as 89 mph last month, has been playing for the Chalfont-based Bucks County Generals.

He noted the uptick in his fastball and how much his accuracy has improved, as evidenced by his 76% strike ratio in his last appearance. He also throws a curveball and changeup and is working on a slider and split-finger fastball.

The latest Perfect Game scouting report on him mentioned his "athletic, long-levered frame with tons of physical projection remaining" and "vastly projectable frame with huge upside on the mound."

"I’m continuously training to get better," he said.
