La La Anthony’s journey to TV was destined as she went from hosting red carpets and interviewing some of her favorite stars, to working alongside them.

Alani “La La” Anthony’s most recent work is on BMF as Markaisha Taylor — wife to a kingpin and love interest to Da’Vinchi, who plays Terry “Southwest” Flenory. Ahead of joining the Starz series, La La also helmed the role of LaKeisha Grant on 50 Cent’s Power franchise and Dominique on Showtime’s The Chi.

The aforementioned roles have shown La La as a hot mama who’s sought after due to her maturity, attractiveness, and boss-like mentality. Much like who the actress, philanthropist, and socialite has perceived herself to be in real life, her onscreen work has allowed fans to fall in love with the many layers of her — even the layer where she bares it all. Throughout her TV career, the New Yorker has admitted to becoming more comfortable filming intimate scenes, which she’s already shared with Joseph Sikora (Tommy in Power), Jacob Lattimore (Emmett in The Chi), and Da’Vinchi.

Ahead of the season three premiere of the Black Mafia Family-centered show, the 41-year-old spoke with VIBE about her growth as an actress, becoming comfortable with filming intimate scenes, and the support of her family.

“My family is with all of it,” she said with her 16-year-old son in mind. “I was never worried about that, but you have to be vulnerable of course. And for me as a woman, we all have our insecurities so baring it all can be a bit of an uncomfortable thing. You work with so many amazing people that make those scenes comfortable. When Da’Vinchi and I have to do that, he makes everything very comfortable and makes me feel seen and protected. So that’s always important in those scenes.”

When asked if seeing herself reenacting sex on camera has ever made her cringe, La La simply said she tries to look at it “from more of the character standpoint and in the artistic standpoint behind it.” She also prefers to watch back her intimate scenes in her own privacy.

“I prefer to watch it by myself and not in front of a group of people,” she admitted. “I like to make sure things are how I want them to be. That’s just my process.” Unbothered with what social media may have to say about her performances, she added, “I don’t really look at social media, Instagram or Twitter after, because I know it’s going to be a lot going on.”

For La La it’s just acting.

“You have to take yourself out of it,” she said. “These characters are in a relationship. These things happen when you’re in a relationship. I’m like, whatever happens after kind of happens and you just quiet the noise because you know that everybody’s going to have something to say about it.

Fans of BMF can see La La’s recurring role of Markaisha in the third season of the hit series, which premieres on March 1. Take a look at then official trailer below.
