La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant will now remain open due to 'incredible local community'
Call it a holiday miracle.
La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant in Gainesville, which announced earlier this month that it would close for good on Saturday after more than three decades in business, has now decided to keep its doors open.
David Castro, whose parents Jesse and Guadalupe Castro opened the restaurant in 1989, told The Sun on Saturday that everything fell into place during this past week thanks to an additional family partner to keep the business running.
"This turn of events is nothing short of a testament to the unwavering support from our incredible local community," the restaurant said in a news release.

David Castro said that since announcing on Dec. 4 that the restaurant would be closing due to financial hardship, the business at 9513 NW 39th Ave. has been packed with customers looking to enjoy a final meal and say goodbye to his parents.
"People were crying, people were laughing," he said.
On top of the decision to remain open, La Fiesta also announced plans to update its food and bar menus. It also plans to remodel the restaurant.
"Expect a fresh and invigorating atmosphere that reflects the vibrant spirit of Gainesville, creating a space where patrons can savor not just delicious cuisine, but an immersive dining experience," the news release said.
Castro said the restaurant plans to continue its current hours of business — Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. — but that they may decide to open on Sundays in the future.
