While the couple's separation was confirmed in the 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' finale, some fans expected their marital issues to play a bigger role in season 13

Kyle Richards is spilling the tea about why her split from her husband Mauricio Umansky was filmed more for Buying Beverly Hills than the current season of her show, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

During an Amazon Live on Thursday, the reality star, 55, answered fan questions about her personal life while selling clothing, lip gloss and home goods.

Toward the end of the video, a question came up about whether Richards would appear on the second season of Umansky's Netflix series Buying Beverly Hills since she wasn't seen on season 1.

She said she would be, because Netflix and Bravo stuck a deal, and then explained why she and Umansky, 53, spoke about their split on Buying Beverly Hills in more detail and hid it for most of RHOBH season 13.

"That is because, for anyone who's confused, [the decision to separate] happened after we were done filming [RHOBH]," she began.

"The story came out, and then Netflix cameras happened to be in Aspen, so they ended up filming with us talking about it."

Richards then explained that she and Umansky went the extra mile so that RHOBH got footage of their split, too.

"Obviously, Bravo's been following my life for 13 years, it's not like [Netflix] can film that scene and then I don't share it with the Housewives, so we ended up shooting both of those scenes for Buying Beverly Hills and [RHOBH] after we were all wrapped [on season 13 of RHOBH]," she said.

At another point in the video, Richards said that she and Umansky were still living in the same house in different rooms. But she later answered a fan question about their situation by saying that they were talking about living separately.

"We're just like easing into things and we're fortunate that we don't fight and we get along ... so it actually oddly works," she said, adding that she knows that her "new normal" right now isn't exactly "sustainable."

The couple announced they were separating after 27 years of marriage in July 2023, PEOPLE exclusively learned at the time.
