In the trailer for season two, the famous couple gather their family around the dinner table for a shocking announcement

Buying Beverly Hills cameras appear to have been rolling when Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky broke the news to their family that they were separating, a new trailer reveals.

In a preview of season two of the Netflix reality series released Thursday, the real estate broker and the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star seemingly discuss their decision to separate, privately first.

The trailer, above, begins with a clip of Richards wiping under her eyes as she has a difficult discussion with her husband in their bedroom. "I've been so stressed and the travel obviously affects us," Umansky says while sitting on their bed.

The scene then transitions to a family dinner where Richards addresses the family seriously. (They share daughters Alexia, 27, Sophia, 24, and Portia, 16, as well as Kyle's eldest daughter Farrah Brittany, 35, from her first marriage to ex Guraish Aldjufrie.)

"We wanted to have this conversation when we were all together, for obvious reasons," she says as tense music plays. "I'm really sorry you guys..." The scene cuts off and viewers are left to draw their own conclusions about the announcement, but the very next scene seems to verify it's about their relationship.

Sitting outside, Umansky says, "She wanted the separation."

A source confirmed to PEOPLE in July 2023 that filming for the second season of the show took place amid the couple's separation.

A source first reported to PEOPLE in July 2023 that the couple "have been separated for a while now but are still living under the same roof. They remain amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family."

Shortly after, Richards and Umansky denied rumors they were getting divorced. Then, the couple confessed to having a "rough year" in a joint Instagram statement.

The pair first met in 1994 and married in January 1996.

In a PEOPLE exclusive first look at part three of the RHOBH reunion on Tuesday, Richards admitted that cheating rumors did "chip away" at their marriage.

“He would say to me, you know, we can't care. We know the truth and you know,” Richards told host Andy Cohen. “Of course, there's always that little voice in my head like, ‘What if this is true?’ People would say these things all the time —”

Cohen asked, "Did those rumors over the years cause you to chip away at your trust for him?"

“Yes,” she responded through her tears. “And they made me feel insecure.”

The previous week Richards' sister Kathy Hilton had said the separation was a long time coming, "[Kyle's] not a compulsive person. She didn't decide this in three months. For sure, I bet she had been thinking — in my feeling — probably in the last three, four years."

While the couple are still only separated, last month, Richards told PEOPLE, she and her husband will resolve things “sooner than later” and are “not going to be in this situation forever."

“We're a family no matter what, and we love each other, and we're just trying to figure it out. So right now, it's not on pause,” she told PEOPLE at the 2024 People's Choice Awards. “We're actively navigating through this and working through it.”

She added, "The good thing is we get along well, and we were at an event last night together with the family. And I don't know, it's been working for us. It's kind of strange, but hey, like I said, we're family no matter what.”

Season 2 of Buying Beverly Hills will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, March 22.
