"I am grateful that there are plenty of fun times too. Ultimately that has been what has kept me coming back year after year," Richards wrote on Instagram ahead of Wednesday night's season 13 premiere

Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky have shown the ups and downs of their relationship on Bravo since 2010, but the husband and wife of 27 years found it particularly tough to step in front of the camera this past season as they struggled in their marriage.

In a candid Instagram posted ahead of Wednesday's season 13 premiere, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star acknowledged that this latest round of filming was "challenging to say the least."

"Tonight! Season 13 begins. 13 years… Here we go again. Each season always brings surprise twists and turns. This season more than ever," wrote Richards, 54.

"I am normally one to isolate when I am struggling," she admitted, "so navigating through this time in my life while cameras were rolling was challenging to say the least."

She then shared that it helped that she and her costars enjoyed "plenty of fun times" together while filming.

"Ultimately, that has been what has kept me coming back year after year. That and my relationships with the people that make RHOBH. Cast and crew," she added. "So, now it’s time to sit back and watch (and for me to relive these moments — good and bad)."

Back in July, a source told PEOPLE that Richards and Maurico, 53, had separated but were still living together, adding, "They remain amicable as they figure out what’s next for them and their family."

The pair later issued a joint statement on Instagram addressing the split news, sharing that they had faced "the most challenging" year of their 27-year marriage. "In regards to the news that came out about us today... Any claims regarding divorcing are untrue," the statement said. "However, yes, we have had a rough year. The most challenging one of our marriage. But we both love and respect each other tremendously."

"There has been no wrongdoing on anyone's part. Although we are in the public eye, we ask to be able to work through our issues privately. While it may be entertaining to speculate, please do not create false stories to fit a further salacious narrative," they continued, thanking people for their love and support.

Shortly after, Bravo's Andy Cohen confirmed that filming for RHOBH season 13 had wrapped up prior to the news of Umansky and Richards' separation but that cameras later began rolling again.

"This will be included in the next season of Beverly Hills in some way, shape or form, that’s all I’ll say," Cohen, 55, said on Radio Andy.

Last month, Umansky gave an update on his marriage to Richards, revealing that the pair is "not separated."

“We were dealing with our own things, kind of, super quietly and internally, just our own issues,” he explained on his real estate company The Agency's Red Mic podcast. “I mean, certainly, we’re not separated. We’re not divorced at this point. We are not any of that stuff."

He said the two were "still dealing with their marriage" and that they were simply weathering a rough patch. “It’s been an amazing 26 years and it’s been a difficult one year," he shared. “You know, Kyle and I are blessed, where we actually had 26 years that we did not have a bad year and I know most marriages have bad months, bad weeks [and] bad years.”

Earlier this month, in another update, Umansky told PEOPLE they are in fact separated but "not throwing in the towel" yet.

“We’re having a bit of a rough patch," he said. “She and I currently are separated, but we are not throwing in the towel. We’re not just saying that to say that. We actually are not yet throwing in the towel.”

He also acknowledged how difficult it has been for Richards to have to navigate this very personal situation in the public eye. “My wife is just being looked at so intensely and it’s really not fair. She’s just a person. She’s an amazing human, she’s my best friend and she does not deserve to be so judged of everything she does," he said.

Umansky asked that fans give the pair time to sort things out, promising to provide further updates.

“We promise you we will let you know," he said. "We’re not hiding anything from you.”

For her part, Richards said during an Amazon Live session in August that she and Umansky "care about each other a lot," noting that their whole family had just returned from a summer vacation in Italy together.

However, she declined to share any more details about the status of her marriage, saying it was “just too much to deal with right now.”
