Mayans MC isn't the only project that Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is working on these days - but Sisters of Sorrow, a new comic book series Sutter is co-writing with horror novelist Courtney Alameda, is a very different kind of story. Heat Vision has the first look at the Jae Lee cover for the first issue.
For the new series, which launches this July, newcomer Hyeonjin Kim has illustrated Sutter and Alameda's story of four women - Dominique, Greta, Misha and Sarah - who spend their days running a nonprofit women's shelter in Los Angeles and their nights hunting down male abusers who have escaped attention from the authorities. (Some of Kim's designs for the characters appear at the end of this article, below the full cover for the first issue by Jae Lee.)
The four women don't go out looking for trouble. They wear nun's habits, which has earned them the nickname "Sisters of Sorrow," as well as earning them the attention of the city's notorious anticrime task force.
Sisters of Sorrow continues Sutter's relationship with L.A.-based publisher BOOM! Studios, with whom he's previously worked on a Sons of Anarchy comic book, as well as the original property Lucas Stand. The $3.99, 32-page first issue of the new series will be released digitally and in comic book stores July 5.
