Kula Shaker frontman Crispian Mills joins Kyle Meredith to talk about Natural Magick, the new album from the English psychedelic rock band. Listen to the new episode above, or wherever you get your podcasts.

The frontman discusses bringing back the band’s original Hammond player, who spent his non-Kula Shaker years playing with Oasis and Oasis-offshoots, and keeping an ear out for their other ’90s peers like The Stone Roses and Blur. Moving from the ’90s to the ’60s, Mills chats about how their love of the decade’s sound led them to play off “The Revolution Will Not be Televised” on the LP opener “Gaslighting.”

Then, when the conversation turns to the band of the 1960s, he gives his take on The Beatles’ new and final song, “Now and Then”: “I wasn’t a huge fan, myself,” he explains. “[Giles Martin did] an amazing job at creating a very polished and well-produced track, but I just don’t know whether the song itself should be the [band’s finale]. Is it more like an epitaph rather than a new track? It was rather sad, rather down. I don’t know whether The Beatles should end like that.”

The singer also finds time to tease that he is working with his A Fantastic Fear of Everything and Slaughterhouse Rulez collaborator Simon Pegg once again on the long-gestating series Technicolor Time Machine.
