The Apple Pan, one of Sam Rubin’s favorite childhood hangouts, opened its patio area Monday for KTLA viewers and friends to gather and pay tribute to the legendary entertainment anchor.

The popular West Los Angeles burger and pie restaurant is closed on Mondays but generously decided to open its patio from 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for people to meet up and remember Sam.

“Come out here … we’ll reminisce. We’ll talk about the burgers and most importantly, we’ll talk about Sam,” KTLA reporter Annie Rose Ramos said Monday morning.

Craig, a former classmate of Sam’s, was there to honor Sam. “I think the last time I saw Sam was at The Apple Pan. I got a real kick out of seeing him on TV every morning,” he said.

Another viewer, Carlos, talked about why he drove all the way from Santa Clarita to pay tribute to Sam. “Why not? To honor someone I always grew up watching … I was drawn to come here, so here I am to show support and love for him,” Carlos said.

Annie Rose also shared a questionnaire that Sam — KTLA’s noted matchmaker — sent her in hopes of fixing her up with the love of her life.

Among Sam’s advice was to “Go young. That is the best advice I can tell you,” Annie Rose shared.

As for the questionnaire, Sam asked Annie Rose if a criminal record would be a deal breaker concerning one of his inquiries.

Sam grew up around the corner from The Apple Pan, which has served its loyal customers for more than 75 years on Pico Boulevard.

“My grandfather took me here once or twice, my dad took me here. I’ve come here my entire life,” Sam once said while having lunch at The Apple Pan with Jessica Holmes.
