Kristin Cavallari & Jay Cutler Call It Quits After 10 Years Together

It was the weekend update no one saw coming: Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler are splitting. The Very Cavallari star and former NFL quarterback announced the news of their impending divorce via social media on Sunday. After three kids — Camden Jack, 7, Jaxon Wyatt, 5, and Saylor James, 4 — and nearly a decade together, Cavallari and Cutler now find themselves in “the situation of two people growing apart.” It’s a Hollywood breakup both sad and unexpected in equal measure.

Cavallari took to Instagram early on Sunday to share the news with fans, posting a nostalgic photo of the couple strolling together beneath colorful street garlands. “With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce,” she wrote. “We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of.”

She continued, explaining that the split was not in any way salacious. “This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family,” said Cavallari. Cutler shared the same sentiment on his own Instagram account, opting to include a black-and-white photo of himself with the Hills alum.

The couple split once before, amid their engagement in 2011, before reconciling and getting married in 2013.

The news of their divorce comes as an especially shocking development in light of their recent vacation. Although the couple calls Nashville home, they wound up trapped in self-isolation in the Bahamas with their kids as well as their travel buddies, Cavallari’s hairstylist friend Justin Anderson and his fiance, Rhodes Austin. Cavallari and Cutler chronicled the seemingly romantic getaway on social media before returning home roughly a month ago.

However, the couple’s relationship hasn’t been entirely drama-free as of late. During this season of Very Cavallari, rumors peaked that Cutler and Cavallari’s best friend, Kelly Henderson, were having an affair. The Uncommon James founder later addressed the allegations, saying, “When season two was airing, there was a lot of talk on social media about Jay and Kelly having an affair. Not for one second have I ever thought that it was true. It wasn’t the actual accusations of them having an affair that made me upset; it was how Kelly went about it.”

It’s important to point out, of course, that those allegations remain unsubstantiated. And there are many, many reasons two people decide to get divorced — one of which is growing apart, as Cavallari says she and Cutler sadly have.
