Kristen Bell responds to those criticizing her smoking around her sober husband: ‘Sorry guys, I smoke weed. I like it.’

Last week, Kristen Bell caught flak for saying she occasionally smokes weed around her husband Dax Shepard, who’s been sober for 14 years.

Shepard quickly defended her on Twitter, saying that expecting his wife to stay sober is “like a diabetic expecting their partner to never eat dessert.”

On Wednesday on The View, Bell defended herself by first saying, “I don’t deal with negative comments.”

She added, “If you’re not using your critical thinking skills and you can’t give me the benefit of the doubt in a situation, and you just come at me, I don’t have time for that.”

Bell also referenced her husband’s past struggles with addiction, saying, “He came to my defense and said he lost his privilege to drink. I didn’t!”

However, Bell did imply that she would change her smoking habits if Shepard was more recently sober.

“If he was year 1 of sobriety, I would absolutely [refrain from smoking marijuana],” Bell said. “But if he sees me smoke a vape once a month, he’s not giving me signals that he’s like going out on a three-day bender.”

Bell said that, for her, using marijuana isn’t always a recreational activity and that she believes in the healing powers of CBD. (Cannabidiol, aka CBD, is a cannabis compound but does not make people feel high.)

But she ended with the simplest answer for her critics: “Sorry guys, I smoke weed. I like it.”
