Kristen Bell Adorably Handles Teleprompter Failure at People’s Choice Awards

Kristen Bell was fighting an uphill battle from the beginning when she presented Tyler Perry with the Favorite Humanitarian Award at the People’s Choice Awards Wednesday night. It got off to a rough start when the host of the show, Joel McHale, introduced Kristen, and there were almost 20 awkward seconds before the star of The Good Place made it onto the stage.

Once she got to the microphone, Kristen ran into another set of problems. As she was talking about all the amazing things Tyler Perry has done for people in need, Kristen said, “And with this guardian angel on our side … the teleprompter has gone out.” Ever the professional, Kristen forged ahead on her own, finishing the introduction by saying, “With this guardian angel at our side, I think we’re all incredibly grateful to have someone like him that can teach us to grow and give back as the example.”

Following a video that showed all the amazing things Tyler Perry has done, Kristen felt the need to explain herself, saying, “I feel like just a moment ago I really pulled the curtain and showed some vulnerability, and I was, in fact, using a teleprompter, and I’m embarrassed that I didn’t memorize it. But to my credit, there were way too many things to memorize.” Even though Kristen had nothing to apologize for, she still asked for forgiveness, adding, “I had to use the prompter, so I hope you’ll cut me some slack.”
