Krispy Kreme’s Limited-Edition Donut Is Made Up Of Strawberry Kreme And Graham Crackers

For one day and one day only, you can get a limited-edition donut at Krispy Kreme that is out of this world. The special flavor comes in honor of the Strawberry Supermoon that will be gracing the sky on the evening of June 24.

The festive donut was designed to look like a Strawberry Supermoon by filling it with Strawberry Kreme, dipping it in Strawberries and Kreme icing, and topped with graham cracker “moon dust.” So if you’re into fruity bites, there’s no way you won’t be into the donut.

It’s clear that Krispy Kreme has a thing for themed donuts, but especially when something cool is going on in space. In the past few years, it honored the solar eclipse with the Chocolate Glaze donut, Apollo 11’s 50th anniversary with Original Filled donuts, and NASA’s Perseverance Rover landing with the Mars Doughnut.

“What better way to celebrate the Strawberry Supermoon than by enjoying it with a new Krispy Kreme doughnut that looks like, well, a Strawberry Supermoon?” Dave Skena, chief marketing officer for Krispy Kreme, said in a press release. “But don’t want to wait ‘til the moon rises Thursday to get the doughnut; our Mars Doughnuts went fast!”

Just so you have some fun facts to offer as you enjoy your donuts, June’s full moon, which is typically the last full moon of spring or the first of summer, is traditionally called the Strawberry Moon. The name comes from, well ... it depends on who you ask. Krispy Kreme says it’s because it happens during harvesting season for strawberries in the northeastern United States. Some say it’s the full moon closest to the summer solstice and glows a reddish color in some European regions.

According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, full moon names were created to apply to the entire lunar month that it occurred, not just relating to the full moon. Is it super clear? No, but the name is fun regardless. And now we get a donut out of the deal.
