Kewanee Police arrested a 19-year-old Kewanee man Friday for kidnapping and sexual assualt after a 15-year-old girl reported he had held her against her will.

Following an investigation, David Rounds was arrested for kidnapping (Class 2 Felony), unlawful restraint (Class 4 Felony), attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault (Class 1 Felony), criminal sexual abuse (Class A Misdemeanor) and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse (Class 2 Felony).

The Henry County State’s Attorney Office has filed formal charges against Rounds, who is being held on $1 million bond (10%).

KPD officers said the girl flagged down patrol officers around 3:30 a.m. She told them she had been walking in the 600 block of South Main Street when Rounds reportedly offered her a ride around 10:30 p.m.

But after accepting the ride, the girl said Rounds instead took her to his residence, refused to let her leave and "committed other criminal acts," according to a KPD press release.

"The juvenile was eventually able to escape the residence around 3:15 a.m. after threatening to scream to alert other people in the residence if he did not let her go," the release said.

Police said that after speaking with Rounds and other witnesses, the girl's claims were corroborated, and he was arrested and taken to Henry County Jail.

The Class 1 Felony carries a potential sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Henry County Courthouse.
