The last couple months of Kourtney Kardashian’s pregnancy with baby Rocky, now 6 months, were scary. The Lemme founder raised speculation that she was having her baby early when her husband Travis Barker took a break from touring to fly out to Los Angeles and visit her in the hospital. She revealed later that she had to have an “urgent fetal surgery,” that was successful. Now, she is sharing more details about the entire experience, including the “miraculous” way a doctor discovered she needed the surgery in the first place.

In the Season 5 premiere of The Kardashians, which dropped today, Kardashian explained that it all started when she arranged to have a sonogram at home with her kids. (In addition to Rocky, she is mom to Mason, 14, Penelope, 11, and Reign, 9, with ex Scott Disick.) “We had planned a scan at home, so that all the kids could see the baby,” she said in today’s episode, per E! News. “The doctor who will come to the house to do the scan is a high-risk doctor, who’s really detailed and thorough at looking for everything. And something caught his eye where he wanted me to see a couple specialists.”

“The timing of it was miraculous. That saved everything,” the 45-year-old added. “My doctor’s like, ‘There’s nothing that you did wrong. It’s not age-related. It’s just a super rare thing that happened.'”

I can’t imagine how scary that must have been! Being at home with her kids — and maybe even Barker’s kids Alabama, 18, Landon, 20, and Atiana De La Hoya, 25, who he shares with ex Shanna Moakler — having a light-hearted scan that suddenly turned serious would be devastating. Because Barker was in Europe touring with Blink-182, Kardashian had to have the “terrifying” and “stressful” surgery with her mom Kris Jenner by her side.

“There’s some superpower that I have — that in emergency situations, I get really calm,” she said. “And then right when we left, I was like, ‘OK, I can take a deep breath. I could cry. I could get it out.'”

After the surgery, Kardashian shared that she had “a hole in the amniotic sac from where they had to go into the surgery.” This led to her being on bedrest and not being allowed to stand “for more than 20 minutes” during the last two months of pregnancy. “I just feel so grateful that how everything played out and for the doctors that really helped make the best decisions that really saved our baby,” she added. “After this happened, I was like, ‘God’s got this. We’re good. This is a miracle and we’re just going to be super positive.'”

In September, the Poosh founder opened up about the experience for the first time, thanking her “incredible doctors,” husband, and mom. She wrote in part, “As someone who has had three really easy pregnancies in the past, I wasn’t prepared for the fear of rushing into urgent fetal surgery. I don’t think anyone who hasn’t been through a similar situation can begin to understand that feeling of fear.”

“I have a whole new understanding and respect for the mamas who have had to fight for their babies while pregnant,” she added.

Kardashian told Vanity Fair Italia in October that her hospital stay was “terrifying,” adding that she isn’t ready to “go into detail” about the experience “because it was really frightening.”

“Right after the surgery, I reached the point where I let myself go and I stopped worrying,” she added. “Now I talk to the baby every day, have a positive mindset, keep my head straight, and say a lot of prayers. I feel really lucky and grateful.”
