Korea’s CJ ENM Sets Jung Jhong-hwan, Fifth Season Board Member, as President of Global Content (EXCLUSIVE)

Korean entertainment conglomerate CJ ENM has appointed Jung Jhong-hwan, as president of content, global business. He is expected to spearhead growth of global content production and distribution and continue the group’s multi-studio approach to business.

Jung previously served as the head of global integration, within CJ Group. He oversaw the establishment and growth of CJ Group’s global businesses, was a key player in creating synergy in core global businesses during his previous role, managed the acquisition deal of Schwan’s and was responsible for enhancing the structural efficiency of CJ.

He was also part of the team involved in CJ ENM’s acquisition of Fifth Season (previously Endeavor Content’s scripted business) and has been involved in its post-merger integration He is also currently a board member of Fifth Season.

Stepping into the new position, with immediate effect, Jung will be expected to bolster the production capacity for non-scripted content and expand CJ ENM’s distribution networks both locally and internationally, as his primary tasks in 2024.

“Our objective is to expedite CJ ENM’s global expansion by strengthening the competitiveness of the content industry’s core and assembling a sustainable business structure,” a CJ ENM spokesperson told Variety.

CJ EMN’s production film and TV production operations include Studio Dragon, CJ ENM Studio and Fifth Season.

The group’s recent output includes popular Korean shows “Castaway Diva,” and a new season of “Unexpected Business.” Since the end of the Hollywood actors’ and screenwriters’ strikes, “Fifth Season has delivered season 2 of “Tokyo Vice” and the new series “Strife” second seasons of “Severance” for Apple TV+ and “Nine Perfect Strangers” for Hulu.

Previously, CJ ENM created, produced or distributed content, including Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” Tony Award-winning musical “Kinky Boots,” record-breaking Korean films including “Roaring Currents” and TV series such as “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” and “I Can See Your Voice.”
