Korea Box Office: ‘Doctor Strange’ Holds Off ‘Split’

Doctor Strange” remained on top of the Korean box office for a third weekend. The Walt Disney release earned $4.36 million between Friday and Sunday, extending its total to $36.4 million from 4.82 admissions after three weekends on release.

Opening on Wednesday, local sport action drama “Split” debuted in second place. The Opus Pictures release earned $3.09 million between Wednesday and Sunday. Starring Yoo Ji-tae (“Old Boy”,) the drama involves a bowler struggling to pay off his gambling debts and a boy who appears to be a born genius in bowling.

Long-running local comedy “Luck-key” dropped to third, earning $1.78 million. The Showbox release has earned a total of $47.3 million after five weekends on release.

Another Wednesday opener, UPI’s “Ouija: Origin of Evil” opened in fourth with $1.46 million over five days.

Opening on Thursday Japanese animation “Gamba” earned $374,700 over its first four days. Opening on Wednesday, Japanese internet fantasy novel adaptation “If Cats Disappeared from the World” earned $284,000 in five days.
