Kool April Nites Tuesday: Rock out in Redding with music, pizza, arcade games and a show

Events leading up to Kool April Nites weekend continue Tuesday, April 23, with a musical production on the Redding Civic Auditorium stage, plus six show and shines with music, dancing, free arcade games and booths serving pizza, ice cream, beer and wine.

Students in the vocal music department at Parsons Junior High School in Redding perform the "Puttin' on the Glitz" musical variety show from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The school's advanced show choir, Music in Motion, will sing and dance. The school's vocal jazz choir, Special Concepts, will perform a program with music by Taylor Swift, Disney favorites and Broadway tunes, Vocal Music Department Director Hillary Hess said.

The centerpiece is the show choir's finale, "Get Your Head in the Game" from Disney's High School Musical series, Hess said.

Admission to the concert is free and donations are accepted. A fundraiser meal costs $15 per person. People can pay with cash, check or PayPal, Hess said.

Show and shines happening on Tuesday:

Show and shines feature classic cars on display at Shasta County businesses, many of which also host food booths and entertainment.

Here's where you'll find show and shines in Redding and Anderson on Tuesday.

  • Kuebler's Furniture/Shasta Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1894 Churn Creek Road in Redding. There will be food, and classic rock deejay Jimmy Limo will play music from the 1950s and '60s. For more information call 530-221-9898.

  • Dude's Drive Inn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1644 Hartnell Ave. Redding. Events with this show and shine are a surprise, said Dude's owner Chris Smiraglia. For more information call 530-222-3775.

  • Players Pizza from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 2305 Balls Ferry Road in Anderson. Activities include a pizza and beer truck, a free video arcade, soft-serve ice cream and a deejay playing music. Will there be dancing? "I hope so," said Manager Meah McDaniel. For more information call 530-365-5473.

  • Pete's Restaurant and Brewhouse from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 815 Browning St. Redding. This show and shine includes live music with classic rock band Hook and drink specials at the bar. For more information call 530-605-1773.
