Mar. 16—Paintings depicting mushrooms and Harry Styles are on display near Highland Park, along with a painting of Taylor Swift and a copy of Van Gogh's "Skull of a Skeleton with Burning Cigarette."

If you look closely, you might see some numbers under the colorful images.

The Kokomo Art Center, 525 W. Ricketts St., has opened an exhibit that celebrates painting by numbers.

"Paint-by-the-numbers is a calming art form," curator for the Kokomo Art Center Lesley Wysong wrote in a press release sent to the Tribune. "The process allows the artist to focus on the moment and many artists find it quite therapeutic. It can be a good way for younger artists to build confidence using paints and brushes ... and the end results are so beautifully creative."

Several paintings from the Kokomo Art Association's permanent collection will also be displayed.

The exhibit includes work by Skyla Fritchle, Ayla Sutton, Kora Sutton and Brandon Wysong.

The Kokomo Art Center is open 1-4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. The Painted-by-the-Numbers exhibit will be shown through March 29.
