Kodak Black Arrested for Weapon and Drug Possession, Uses Cash to Cover Face as He Leaves Jail

Rapper Kodak Black attempted to hide his face with cash as he stepped out of jail Thursday afternoon after being arrested for weapon and drug possession.

At around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Kodak, 21, whose real name is Bill K. Kapri, and three associates were detained by U.S. Border and Customs Protection while trying to cross the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge — a bridge between the U.S. and Canada, New York State Police confirmed in a press release.

After searching Kodak’s Cadillac Escalade, police allegedly found marijuana and a Glock 9mm pistol “that was undeclared,” the press release states.

Traveling with Kodak’s Cadillac was a Porsche, occupied by Stetson J. President, 24,  Madarrow D. Smith, 20, and Jeantony Saintmelus, 22.

In the Porsche, police found two loaded handguns, which Saintmelus “declared” and a third weapon in the trunk. Police claim they also found marijuana, according to the press release.

The men were then taken into custody.

“During a primary inspection, questions were asked and at that point they made a declaration of being in possession of both marijuana and firearms,” Chief of Customs and Border Protection Officer, Kevin Corsaro said, WKBW-TV reported.

President and Smith were arrested for criminal possession of a weapon and Saintmelus was booked for criminal possession of a weapon and possession of marijuana.

Kodak was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Kodak was released Thursday on a $20,000 bail, TMZ, USA Today and The Blast reported.

In a video shared by WKBW-TV, Kodak remained silent as he was escorted out of jail while fans rushed to his side to take selfies and videos. The rapper shielded his face from cameras with a fan of cash.

Kodak, President, Smith and Saintmelus will appear in court in May, according to New York State Police.

A representative for the rapper did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. Lawyers for the other men arrested alongside the rapper could not immediately be located.

Because of his arrest, Kodak was forced to miss two concerts in Boston Wednesday night.

House of Blues Boston confirmed the show cancellation on Twitter writing, “With sincere apologies, due to unforeseen circumstances, the Kodak Black shows have been postponed. New dates will be announced as soon as possible.”

Kodak’s latest run-in with the law, comes after the rapper made headlines for suggesting he would give late rapper Nipsey Hussle‘s girlfriend Lauren London “a whole year” before pursuing her romantically.

In a since-deleted Instagram Live broadcast, the rapper remarked, “Lauren London, that’s baby, though. She about to be out here single. I’ll be the best man I can be for her. I’ll give her a whole year. She might need a whole year to be crying and s— for him,” according to The Shade Room.

“I ain’t trying to shoot [my shot] at her. I’m saying, listen. She can do two, three years. I’ll try to be like the friend if you need to holla or a shoulder to lean on. She can call my line,” Kodak continued.

The rapper’s comments were immediately met with outrage from fans and celebrities who found his remarks disrespectful to both London, who is grieving the loss of her longtime love, and Hussle, who was fatally shot on March 31.

“Keep his girl’s name out your f— mouth,” The Game said, adding, “This new generation, y’all f— up in the head.”

In a since-deleted video, rapper T.I. also slammed Black, telling him to “get your m— self together,” according to Complex.

Black went on to apologize for his comments, claiming that he “didn’t” disrespect her.

“If I disrespected you Lauren London, in any shape or form, I’m sorry. Even though I didn’t. And rest in peace to [Nipsey],” he said on Instagram Live, according to The Shade Room.
