  • Multiple misspellings were discovered on the new Kobe Bryant statue outside of the Lakers' arena

  • The Lakers said they "have been aware" for weeks and are "already working" on a fix

  • Two additional statues of Bryant will be erected in downtown Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Lakers are working to fix the multiple typos discovered on the new Kobe Bryant statue in downtown Los Angeles, the team said in a statement on Monday.

The misspellings, which are etched into the memorial statue outside of the Lakers' Crypto.com Arena, went viral Sunday after sports journalist André Voigt pointed them out in photos on X.

On Monday, a spokesperson for the Lakers told ESPN, "We have been aware of this for a few weeks and are already working to get it corrected soon," in a statement.

The errors include several misspellings of the names of former Toronto Raptors who played against Bryant in his famous 81-point game in Jan. 2006 that was memorialized on the marble statue, which was unveiled on Feb. 8 during a special ceremony.

Former Raptor José Calderón's name is spelled "Calderson" and Von Wafer's mention lists him as "Vom" Wafer where the statue displays the box score from that matchup. Another spot misspells "decision" as "decicion."
