After enthusiastically following the Barbie press tour for months (with more focus than a presidential election) and seeing the movie right away on opening weekend, I thought I'd soaked up all there was to learn about this pink masterpiece.

Little did I know, there's yet another reason to cry tears of sentimental joy over this movie. I had no idea that America Fererra's husband, Ryan Piers Williams, makes an appearance to play her husband on screen!

(SPOILERS AHEAD!) Knowing that America's IRL husband plays her husband in the movie makes his last line in Barbie sooo much more special, because it subtly references one of America's most iconic pieces of work that you may have missed. Let me explain. Many people may know America from her more popular roles on Ugly Betty or Superstore, but some of us first met her in the criminally underrated Disney channel movie, Gotta Kick It Up!

If you're not familiar with the movie, you're missing out. Basically, it's about a struggling dance team that's trying to make it to the championships. It's made up of a group of students that are primarily Latina, and to get hyped up before performances, they adopt the phrase "sí, se puede" as a team chant. In the movie, they say it means "yes, I can," but the more literal translation would be "yes, it is possible."

This chant is a seriously integral part of the movie. Even if you only vaguely remember watching it on your childhood television 21 years ago, I'm confident you at least remember "sí, se puede" being yelled to the heavens. But, if you've never seen Gotta Kick It Up!, then you'd totally miss the reference made to it in Barbie.

America's character in Barbie, Gloria, has a husband who isn't very important to the plot, and is only shown in two scenes. In the first one, he is portrayed using his phone to play Spanish phrases that he repeats so he can learn the language.

That's literally all we see of him until the very last scene. By the end of the movie, you're left wondering...is that, like, everything there is to this character? Is there a reason, besides just a funny cutscene, to show him learning Spanish? Ohhh yes, there totally is. In the final scene of Barbie where he and Gloria are encouraging Barbie before she goes to her gynecologist, he says the line, yes THE line: "Sí, se puede." Let me just say, I YELPED in the theater and said, out loud, against my will, "A Gotta Kick It Up! reference?!"

I cannot believe such a deep cut was given a shoutout in such a huge film, but I was kinda sad for the people sitting around me at the movies that didn't seem to catch the joke. Luckily, it seems like this little nod to a DCOM was not unnoticed by all, and others did pick up on the nostalgia online:

Did anyone else notice the “si se puede” line in Barbie??? It unlocked a hidden Disney Channel memory from when I was a kid and it has to be a nod to the movie America Ferrera starred in Gotta Kick it Up right??? pic.twitter.com/dyWERoaatB

Greta Gerwig, my queen, you have done it again. I will never get over this. Did you catch this Gotta Kick It Up! reference? Had you never heard of it before and plan to watch it on Disney+ for your next girls night? Let us know!
