Who is Trombone Shorty?

Trombone Shorty (Troy Andrews) is best known as a trombone and trumpet player but also plays drums, organ and tuba. He performed a free concert as a headliner as well in 2022, a concert that was delayed from the 2020 festival that was cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic. He made his first jazz fest appearance in 2010 and closed out the 2019 edition with a free show that packed Parcel 5. He also played at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park in Rochester in 2021.

Andrews got his stage name from his family when he first picked up his signature instrument at age 4. The New Orleans native has become a powerhouse bandleader, singer, songwriter and trombonist. He also runs The Trombone Shorty Foundation to inspire the next generation of talented yet underserved musicians.
