Kitten freed from Walmart soda machine — and finds a home with Tennessee employee
A kitten that made itself at home inside a Walmart vending machine now has a new home with the employee who came to its aid, according to Tennessee authorities.
Firefighters arrived at the Walmart on Crockett Chase in Morristown on Wednesday, June 29, after a store worker called about a cat stuck inside a Pepsi machine, city officials wrote in a news release.
After hearing the kitten’s cries, crews unplugged the machine and took off its back cover, officials said. They still weren’t able to see the animal.
Firefighters found another opening and safely coaxed the kitten out that way. It’s not clear how the cat got inside or how long it was there before being found.
“Fire crews joked about naming it Pepsi,” officials wrote on Facebook. “Thank you to our Morristown Firefighters for going above and beyond to save this sweet little kitten!”
The post has been shared hundreds of times, and users chimed in with a few suggestions of their own.
“’Mountain Mew’ would be a good name,” one person commented.
“So cute! ‘Soda Pop’ would be a sweet name too!” wrote another.
The employee ended up adopting the kitten, officials said.
Morristown is about 230 miles east of Nashville.
