Kirstie Alley: It's 'Bull—' People Lose Their Jobs Over Anonymous Allegations

Kirstie Alley is speaking out in defense of people who lose their jobs following anonymous allegations of sexual misconduct.

“What the hell is happening? We now live in a country where people lose their jobs when accused of something without proof or trial or in some cases w anonymous accusers?” the Scream Queens actress, 66, tweeted Wednesday.

She also blasted the people who choose to make anonymous allegations. “Can’t confront your accuser? This is bulls—. And IT HURTS THE REAL VICTIMS of abuse. AND innocent people,” she added.

Although she made her comment hours after Matt Lauer was fired by NBC after a detailed allegation accusing the former Today host of “inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace” was made by an unnamed colleague, Alley denied her statement was about the news anchor.

Alley later replied to her original tweet: “I may be mistaken (I’m not) I don’t believe I’ve ever mentioned Matt L. in ANY tweet EVER.. another example of MISDUPLICATION run a muck.”

Since his termination, Lauer has faced additional allegations from anonymous sources.

Lauer spoke out about his own termination from NBC for the first time in a statement read by his former Today cohost Savannah Guthrie on Thursday morning.

“There are no words to express my sorrow and regret for the pain I have caused others by words and actions,” Lauer said. “To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this, I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC.”
