Kirk Cousins to be featured in Netflix docuseries
HOLLAND - Weeks after debuting its latest sports docuseries, Netflix announced another project that will feature one of West Michigan’s own.
Netflix and the NFL have announced an agreement with behind-the-scenes access to produce a show called “Quarterback.” The show will follow three NFL quarterbacks: Kansas City star Patrick Mahomes, longtime veteran Marcus Mariota and Holland native Kirk Cousins.
Netflix says the quarterbacks were mic’d up for every game this past season and will follow their journeys from the start of the season to the end — a Super Bowl win for Mahomes and a heartbreaking playoff defeat for Cousins.
Mahomes’ company, 2PM Productions, will work alongside NFL Films on the project, and Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning will serve as an executive producer.

Manning called it “a unique and intimate look at what life is like as a starting quarterback.”
Netflix has gone all-in on sports docuseries following the success of their show “Formula 1: Drive to Survive,” which will release its first episode of season five on Friday. Netflix also has series following the world’s top tennis players in “Break Point” and some top-rated golfers in the newly released “Full Swing.” Netflix also has docuseries in the works c overing the 2022 Tour de France, the FIFA men’s World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Guinness Six Nations rugby championship.
Cousins was a star athlete at Holland Christian High School, playing football, baseball and basketball for the Maroons. He accepted a scholarship offer from then-Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio to play for the Spartans. After sitting out a year and serving as a backup to Brian Hoyer, Cousins won the starting job in 2009.
The three-time captain went on to lead the Spartans to a share of the 2010 Big Ten title and finished his career as the team’s all-time leader in wins (27), passing yards (9,131) and passing touchdowns (66).
Cousins was drafted in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft by Washington. He played six seasons for the franchise, eventually earning the starting job while star QB Robert Griffin III dealt with injuries. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2018 and has led the team to the playoffs twice, including the 2022 NFC North Division title.
