The hopes that Prince Harry and King Charles III would grow closer after the monarch’s cancer diagnosis have quickly disappeared as it becomes clear that the royal family isn’t interested in ending the feud. Charles and Prince William may have moved in a direction that could leave the rift lingering for years, and it’s quite an unfortunate turn of events.

Christopher Andersen, author of The King: The Life of Charles III, told Fox News Digital that the family feud has taken a dramatic turn in recent months, but it’s not because of Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip to Nigeria. “[Charles and William] have chosen to ignore Harry, to freeze him out, and to not let him get under their skin when they are facing so many critical challenges,” Andersen alleged. “In a way, I think that is even sadder. It’s been said that hate isn’t the opposite of love – indifference is.”

The recent trip was at the invitation of the country’s chief of defense staff after meeting the couple at the Invictus Games in Germany last year — the couple and the event are in major demand. While King Charles and Prince William are “not surprised” that Harry made the trip, Andersen believes that the father and son have “crossed Harry off their list for a plethora of reasons, but making a brief trip with one reporter and one photographer in tow isn’t one of them.” So, the royal expert is telling everyone it wasn’t the trip that bugged them, but it’s been a series of events that started with their Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, as well as the Duke of Sussex’s memoir, Spare, that rattled them.

Andersen praised Harry and Meghan for making “their appearances abroad seem as informal and unofficial looking as possible” by scaling “back their entourage.” He added, “My sense is that they are taking pains not to appear as if they are overstepping their bounds.” Even though the palace is acting like the Sussexes “don’t exist,” Andersen hopes that Charles and William “will be courageous and far-sighted enough to take the olive branch Harry repeatedly extends to them” because it’s long overdue, especially with the current health crises in play. “Finding a legitimate part-time royal role for Harry and his family could be a huge shot in the arm for the monarchy at a time when the royals need all the help they can get,” he continued. “But at the moment, it’s not looking good.”

However, Andersen’s allegations starkly contrast with The Daily Beast‘s sources who revealed how frustrated Charles was with Harry and Meghan. “Be in no doubt, Harry and Meghan being freelance royals is the stuff of nightmares for the Palace,” they claimed. “It’s exactly what the late Queen Elizabeth wanted to avoid.” No matter what King Charles and Prince William’s feelings are toward the Sussexes, the truth that there is no end to the royal feud still exists.
