King Charles Might Be Too Busy to See Prince Harry During His Visit to the U.K.

The king is fully booked with garden parties and audiences with the prime minister.

Prince Harry is set to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games on May 8 (without Meghan Markle, unfortunately), but it looks like King Charles may be too busy to see his son when he's in town.

Last week, Buckingham Palace announced that the monarch would be returning to his usual schedule as much as possible, which may mean that Harry and the Invictus Games anniversary don't make the cut. The Telegraph notes that on "Wednesday, [Charles] will have his weekly audience with the Prime Minister before he hopes to attend the first Buckingham Palace garden party of the season." Additionally, the king has "various appointments and engagements scheduled" for the remainder of the week. Even with that packed itinerary, sources close to the royals say that if time permits, there will be some one-on-one time between father and son.

After Harry made a quick visit to see his dad earlier this year—the two met for just a little over half an hour after Charles shared the news of his cancer diagnosis—he ABC News that he was “grateful” for the time spent with his father, saying, “I’ll stop in and see my family as much as I can.”

The Telegraph also noted that Harry's return to the U.K. is expected to be a little longer this time around, as this was a planned working trip. He could have appointments with his favorite charities, including WellChild, the Diana Award, and Scotty’s Little Soldiers. Something that may take some time is the possibility of the duke conducting an investiture on Wednesday. Sources close to the royals think that he will confer an honor to Claire van Straubenzee, the mother of Henry van Straubenzee, a close friend of Harry's who died in a car crash in 2002 at age 18.

Harry is not expected to see his brother, William. The two have been on the outs since Harry and his wife stepped down from their roles as senior royals, and the rift between the siblings got even wider with the publication of Harry's memoir, Spare. While some royal fans hoped to see a reunion between the brothers as well as some photo ops with Kate Middleton—making for a Fab Four reunion after so, so long—Harry's security concerns may have played into why Meghan decided to stay home.

After he lost a High Court trial back in February, Harry argued that his family could not “feel at home” in the U.K. if it was “not possible to keep them safe."
