King Charles III’s new year has not started off on a good note. Despite hoping to change the narrative about Prince Andrew’s ties to Jeffry Epstein by welcoming Sarah Ferguson into the royal family fold on Christmas, the goodwill has now ended after the court documents related to the late convicted sex offender are public.

At some point, Charles is going to have to make a decision that benefits the royal family instead of protecting his younger brother, who is facing a new round of serious allegations. However, the king is reportedly acting on Queen Elizabeth II’s wish in her later years to know that Prince Andrew was taken care of. It’s likely one reason why Charles extended the olive branch during the holiday season. “It would have been easier to have asked him to stay away,” a source told the Daily Mail. “But if the message of Christmas is anything, it is about family and togetherness. That’s also why he extended the invitation to Fergie as well.”

Charles allegedly “feels a responsibility” toward Andrew and refuses to “banish his brother” no matter how bad the optics look for the palace (and boy, are they bad). The king feels like they’ve punished his brother enough after retiring him from his senior role, taking away his private office and staff, and losing his HRH and military titles. Prince Andrew and the rest of the royal family mistakenly believed that settling his civil suit brought forth by Epstein trafficking survivor Virginia Giuffre, who claimed she was sexually abused by him as a teen, would make everything go away. Instead, it was just the tip of the iceberg.

In the latest document dump, Andrew has been accused of groping Johanna Sjoberg at Epstein’s New York City townhouse in 2001 when she was just 20. Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s recruiter, and Giuffre, reportedly witnessed Andrew’s bad behavior. While Buckingham Palace has been adamant that any allegations are “categorically untrue,” Prince Andrew’s association with the late pedophile has continued to haunt the royal family.

It’s now at the point that King Charles’ loyalty to the promise he made to his late mother is more important than taking a stand against alleged sex crimes against girls and women. As royal expert Kinsey Schofield noted on GB News this week, “It’s not a great look and I do think that you are as strong as your weakest team member and unfortunately he’s their weakest team member.” The palace’s usual PR stance of staying silent is backfiring, and people are taking notice on a global level.
