King Charles Is Creating Something Fun in His Garden — & It’s Perfect for His Adventurous Grandkids George, Charlotte, & Louis

Visiting Grandpa Charles (aka, the King of England) is about to be a lot more fun for Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 6. The King is working on something fun in his garden at his Royal Sandringham estate in Norfolk that his adventurous grandkids will no doubt be obsessed with.

King Charles is creating a new garden maze for the kids (and adults!), inspired by the labyrinth that he played in as a child, according to Hello! Magazine. “In his childhood, Charles would spend hours playing in a maze on the estate,” the outlet stated. Unfortunately for the King and his descendants (Prince William, Prince Harry, and their respective kids), the maze was removed “several decades ago.”

Hello! obtained a picture of a sign for “The Lower Maze Project,” which is hung on a fence at Sandringham. The sign shows a picture of the planned maze, explaining, “Work here is underway to complete The Lower Maze Garden. Adding a horticultural dimension to adjoin the recently completed Topiary Garden, this whole new area will create a formal aspect for visitors to enjoy in the garden at Sandringham.”

“The Lower Maze Garden is due for completion in Summer 2024,” the sign added.

The maze is close to being finished, with hedges already planted around a fountain on the estate’s West Lawn. According to the outlet, this is the third maze King Charles has created — including mazes at Dumfries House in Ayrshire and Balmoral in Aberdeenshire — and prior to these, a royal maze hasn’t been constructed in 300 years! Apparently, King Charles’ childhood maze memories made a big impact on him!

George, Charlotte, and Louis are huge sports lovers like their parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton. Last June, the President of the Rugby Football Union Nigel Gillingham said that Middleton plays all the sports with her children. “She regularly plays rugby in the back garden with the children – she plays all sports with them. Apparently, Charlotte is very much in her mold – very competitive as well,” he said.

Prince George loves sports and even had a football-themed 10^th birthday party (soccer for Americans), while Prince Louis enjoys cricket and rugby.

Now, the royal kids (and the public from April-October) can play in the Sandringham Gardens’ wooden play area with swings, zip lines, water and sand features, but hopefully by the time they’re on summer break, the new maze will be open as well. This will be great fun, and a great distraction from the stress of both King Charles and Princess Kate going through treatment for cancer.

It’s sure to be a-maze-ing!
