'Kinda missing the point': Schwarzenegger's apology to women divides readers

Arnold Schwarzenegger has admitted he “behaved badly” toward women in the past — and the vague confession isn’t sitting too well with commenters. “Looking back, I stepped over the line several times, and I was the first one to say sorry. I feel bad about it, and I apologize,” he says in the new issue of Men’s Health. The 71-year-old icon’s delayed mea culpa adds another milestone to the #MeToo movement.

Yahoo users weighed in and seem fairly split when it comes to whether the apology was sincere. One speculated, “Arnold is just being proactive before they come after him,” while another wasn’t buying it at all: “He had a child with his housekeeper. He kept her working at his house and kept it all a secret from his wife. This was huge disrespect toward his wife. Daily disrespect for over 10 years.”

Despite numerous well-documented accusations of misconduct toward women over the years, some users applauded the Terminator star’s candor: “I respect a man that can admit it, regrets it and apologizes for it. Not a bunch of excuses and denials.” Another added, “Good to hear. We want people to learn and change for the better.”
