Kimora Lee Simmons Rocks Blue Boss Lady Suit for State Department Luncheon: 'Fabulosity Meets Diplomacy'

Kimora Lee Simmons suited up for a State Department luncheon held in Washington, D.C. this week in honor of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

In a post shared to Instagram, Simmons can be seen in an expertly tailored navy blue suit at the event where, in one image, she is joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

"Fabulosity meets diplomacy," Simmons captioned the carousel of images. "A rich cultural exchange at the State Department luncheon to welcome the Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida. So many talented and committed professionals. Thank you, Madam Vice President @vp @kamalaharris for having me."

Simmons added emojis for the American and Japanese flags in captioning the photos, which offered glimpses of the luncheon's table setting as well as Harris and Kishida delivering remarks during the event.

The luncheon is part of a series of events meant to welcome the Japanese prime minister and his wife, Yuko, to the U.S. on their official state visit.

On Wednesday, April 10, President Biden and Dr. Jill Biden served as hosts of a black-tie event at the White House honoring the couple. Other media and entertainment attendees of the black-tie dinner included Apple CEO Tim Cook and VP Lisa Jackson; actor Robert De Niro and his girlfriend Tiffany Chen; Jeff Bezos and fiancée Lauren Sanchez; Japanese American Olympic medalists Kristi Yamaguchi and Alex and Maia Shibutani.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in 2023, Simmons — who shares both Korean and Japanese heritage with her mother, who was a first-generation immigrant to America — spoke about a family trip she had taken to Japan with her five kids.

"It was rewarding to expose all my kids to Japan," the entrepreneur told PEOPLE of the trip made with sons Kenzo, whom she shares with ex Djimon Hounsou; Wolfe, whom she shares with ex Tim Leissner; Gary, whom she welcomed by adoption when he was 10 years old; and daughters Aoki and Ming, who she shares with ex Russell Simmons.

"I've traveled there so many times throughout my life for work or modeling. Japan is vibrant, electric and such a vibe shift! Watching them absorb their surroundings — the art, the food, the language, the fashion — was beyond rewarding."
