‘Kimmy Schmidt’ Star Shames Georgia’s Recent Anti-LGBT Legislation

University of Georgia alum and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Tituss Burgess dropped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert and had a lot of shade to throw at his home state. Colbert asked Burgess if he was from Georgia, and without hesitation Burgess said yes — begrudgingly. When Colbert asked the visibly upset Broadway actor why he was so quick to denounce the great state of Georgia, Burgess piped up that it was because the state was “shady.”

The political activist was then handed a graduation cap and given an opportunity to address his fellow classmates on the importance of voting. Burgess said to the Georgia graduates, “I think you need to come out of the bars and go vote in these primaries and the elections, and get these terrorists out of office. Because you are literally — your inactivity, your inability to protect human beings is killing us.” Regardless of whether he’ll get the opportunity to speak, it’s safe to say that Burgess’s speech put everyone listening in formation.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
